Open Cash drawer button in POS
I hate having to get the keys out if I want to open the drawer, plus it doesn't record who opened the drawer and for what reason. If there was an "open cash drawer" button in the POS section it would help with twos things. 1. Not having to physically open the drawer with the key. 2. Adds responsibility and records who who opened the drawer with time and date, and you could even have an optional "What was your reason for opening the drawer" Comment section.
New POS features and z-report are live! Look forward to further feedback.

Wade - This will trigger a small print job saying who's opening the drawer. You'll still need all your same drawer pop settings on the printer.

I'm curious how the new button is supposed to work? Currently we use the Star TSP100 printer and I have in the settings to pop the drawer when it prints. After the POS updates over the weekend and the new pop drawer button appeared, I tried turning off the drawer pop in the printer properties and tested the pop drawer button again and it didn't open. Is it supposed to work that way? If not, is it printer model specific?

Any change on this? I have to use my epson printer application to open the drawer right now.

Hey all - quick update, we are waiting for Star to solve a browser security issue where our site is using SSL, and their printers serve over HTTP (no ssl) on your local network, so our app is blocked by the browser from communicating with the printer.
They have SSL support coming soon I've heard, so we'll update again as soon as we hear something.

Is it still planned... ?

can I add that a better solution would be to add support for usb drawer pop devices. These are pretty common in the pos market and provide an agnostic interface to all cash drawers that is not dependent on a specific printer model

Ryan, I 100% agree with you on This, Perfect explaination!!!! Even though you are in Beta with the new star printers, this would be a great addition to the older printers as well. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Actually with the new Star printers with WebPrnt we'll be fully supporting this any day now. We are in beta with those printers.
There will be an Open Drawer button and a separate permission just for that. Our app will be able to talk directly to the drawer without needing a printer.

I think the easiest way to add this would be to a "No Sale" option to POS (or better yet to the top drop down where your email address is). Then, the No Sale transaction would be tracked to the user for auditing purposes. It would trigger a drawer pop via a simple receipt that says "No Sale" with the date/time/user information, and maybe even let you add a short note for the reason. Further, making the No Sale ability part of a security group is a must.

This I think could be accomplished two or more ways, but once you get the basic one implemented, the rest could be easy. Simple would be sending a one blank lines to the printer. you could then build off of that with such options as, printing the time and date and why you opened the drawer without a sale could also be printed instead of blank paper.
