Custom statuses has come up in a few idea posts here, but was denied on grounds that changing the list of statuses would affect functionality of the system elsewhere.
If this is the case, the ability to add more statuses of our own while maintaining the current ones would at least be functional, if a little inelegant.
There are many situations where the current status list is insufficient for us, for example we'd like statuses like "Contact Customer" or "Ready for collection".
