More "Drop down" options on Referred By
Love the way "Customer" gives another field that lets you search for the customer that referred them. It would be really nice to have more choices with "sub options" on them.
For instance, we have an option called "Tech". It would be awesome if that gave another field that let you choose/search for the computer tech in the company that referred them.
Another example is "Competitor". We have a lot of customers that come to us after being unsatisfied with one of our competitors. It would be cool if another field would show where we could choose from a drop down of pre-programmed choices, like: BestBuy, Staples, OfficeDepot, ABC Computers, The PC Guys, Down the Street Computers, etc.
This would really allow us to minimize the number of "main choices" a tech has to search through, which would make the collected info more accurate. Right now, we have 30+ choices (one for each competitor, etc), and we really want to narrow it down to more general choices that allow you to optionally specify and sub option.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!
Isn’t this already in the settings??

This would be solved by completing one of these two related posts:

@Troy: No, this is part of my elaboration on making "main choices" contain "child values" to help consolidate options to choose from, but ultimately allow us to drill into referred by data. Example:
Customer says they were referred by "a friend".
You choose the "main choice" - Customer
You then can specify the "child value" - Specific customer nameWhat we'd like is a similar option for other choices, like this:
Customer says they came in after an unhappy experience with "a competitor".
You type in the name of the specific competitor (which is the "child value") - lets say ABC PC Repair.
Then, the "main choice" is automatically populated - Local Competitor. This way we don't have to remember "ABC PC Repair" is considered "Local Competitor".

I would also like more options in "referred by". We would like to know where to spend our advertising dollars and tracking with more details would be great. Plus if when you click other if you could add a space for text for those unusual referred by's.

Seconded!
This is a request for an additional secondary "referred by" field under Other or one of the other drop downs for when we have a referral from a person who's NOT an existing customer but someone we know.
For example, there is a Time Warner Cable rep who refers us a lot of business, but is not a customer himself. When we add his name, it does not display in the customer "Referred by" field. It simply drops the secondary text box field entirely and just shows "Referred by: ".

Hey Troy,
No, I think you're misunderstanding. What I'm talking about is making more "options" that work the way "customer" does. When you select "customer" as an option, another field becomes available that lets you specify which customer.
I'm saying it would be nice to have more fields that give you the additional specifics box to detail more. For example, if there were a drop-down option for "tech" and it would show an additional box that lets you specify which technician referred them. Another example would be a drop-down option for "competitor", which would allow you to specify which specific competitor you are talking about.
This would help by minimizing the number of "main options" and allow you to get a better quick reference of where your referrals are coming from.
