Set customers as "VIP" or "Fired"
This would be an Admin only feature...
We would like to be able to mark customers as "VIP" if they are long time customers, big spenders, or just a close friend of an Admin. Everyone says "Me and the owner are cool, hook me up", but this way any tech who's checking them in will easily identify and they will be treated extra well. Maybe a green background on the name, or asterisk next to the name...
On the other end, we need to be able to mark some customers as "Fired". We've, of course, had to fire some customers who are nothing but a problem. Rude, bad tempered, whatever. We have multiple stores and they just try to pull one over at another location. I want their name to red flag the tech so they can politely tell them to get lost. Even better if the system would "lock" that customer so they can't get help even if the tech tried.
We have 8000+ customers and about 30 are VIPs and 5-10 are fired. Also, I add cops to the fired list who write me speeding tickets. Dirt bags...
This is live! Check it out under Admin > Customer Custom Fields. It will show for any drop down field you create.

@anthony This is already been completed in both facets. There are pop up messages available and icons for customers.
@Troy @RS: You guys need to turn off comments if we’re not longer using this platform.

I laughed out loud when I saw that cops who write speeding tickets are added to the fired list. But it is typically a big deal to be "fired" and should pop up and be obvious the moment their name is typed into the system. Otherwise if a new employee is checking them in, a custom field (one of many) can be easily overlooked.
The custom field is nice but it is basic and does not feel specific for this feature. Adding a configurable icon next to customers names should do the trick. I wish I could bump this up with more votes.

Hey Troy,
Can you please add hover/alt text to these icon images so new tech's can see what they are entered in our system as?
Thanks!

Still waiting patiently for a small variety of icons... especially flame and money icons :)

Hey Robert, This can be taken one step further...
You could add these icons to the clients profile and to the ticket/dashboard/other areas. This could help represent priority clients. It just states... Hey if you have 2 things due around the same time and your late... help this client and fix this client first.
It could also be used for an icon for clients that are part of a program (contract - gold, silver, bronze, etc...)
just a few ideas for quick visual reference.

Cool. Your flame and money stack suggestions are noted. :)

Yes! That is definitely better than nothing. I recall you said font colors could cause issues with future theme updates and I understand that reasoning.
Right now, I've just added VIP or FIRED to peoples last names. Icons will surely be better to work with. It should absolutely be in the "additional fields" of customer's info, though. I have a feeling my techs will fool around and start adding emoticons to /every single customer/ if it's too readily available when making new customers. lol
PS. As related to my original reasoning - please make a flame icon and money stack icon ;)

I saw another system that just changed the font color of the customers name - seemed like a simple solution. That way you could use font colors to identify different types/status of customers however you want. (For me I'd use green for VIP and red for fired). All it would require is a "color" option under additional customer info - default would be black, but it could be changed to one of a few built-in colors.
This could be implemented in the customer list, search results and quick search field at the top. The names normally populate in black, and instead could stand out if a custom color is applied to that specific customer. So it wouldn't just be for the usage of "VIPs" or "Refusals", but could be used however the store wants.
Pretty please with a cherry?
