Multiple status fields

We use the status field with Zapier and trello to move tickets about etc. When customer reply to a comment, it changes the status to 'customer reply' which is all very we ll, but we then lost what the status _WAS_ before they replied. Would it be an idea to have a 2nd status filed, that can be accessed via Zapier that is not affected by anything other than admin defined changes (manual, zapier, automation etc)
